Being a coach within the Special Olympics is one of the most rewarding experiences that our members have as volunteers in the Santa Barbara community. Acting not only as coaches, but also as mentors, for the Special Olympics community allows our members to have hands-on experience working with people diagnosed with autism, Down’s syndrome, Asperger’s, and several other disorders. Being able to meet these athletes and work each week to improve their quality of life is the main focus of this program, but being to work together as coaches is also a great bonding experience for our members.
Interested UCSB pre-health students should email for more information on how to apply.
Lauren Downey began our collaboration with the Special Olympics in July of 2014.
