HPA's Annual Spring Health Professions Conference is a day-long event featuring panel discussions about healthcare, mock MMI workshops, networking opportunities with local healthcare providers from a variety of healthcare backgrounds, and an interactive Suture Clinic, where students can practice real surgical suturing techniques with the instruction of a healthcare professional. In the past, panel discussions have included the critique of how what they don't teach you in medical school impacts one's practice, and how community medicine is and should be changing in Santa Barbara. Speakers have included professionals from Cottage Hospital, UCSB Student Health, Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics, the Santa Barbara Department of Public Health, Doctors Without Walls, and Santa Barbara Street Medicine. The opportunity to hear from these professionals, as well as to practice real surgical techniques in our Suture Clinic, has made HPA's Annual Health Professions Conference the largest pre-medical event on UCSB's campus!
