Figuring out how to become a successful medical or professional school applicant is difficult, as there is no single pathway to becoming the perfect applicant. The HPA Annual Medical School Teleconference was founded in order to educate UCSB pre-health students on how to become competitive applicants. This event features an opportunity to learn from a panel of alumni from UCSB and other undergraduate institutions who are currently students at some of the top medical and healthcare-related professional schools in the country. Each year, we coordinate the teleconference with a new school that we have not collaborated with before. Beginning in 2020, we opened our Teleconference to student panelists from multiple schools. Past Teleconferences featured panelists at the institutions listed below:
2020-2021: Yale School of Medicine, University of Massachusetts Medical School, Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, UC San Francisco School of Dentistry, and Midwestern University Occupational Therapy Program
2019-2020: UC Riverside School of Medicine
2018-2019: UC Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine
2017-2018: UC San Diego School of Medicine
2016-2017: UC Irvine School of Medicine
2015-2016: UC Davis School of Medicine
The Teleconference discussion is focused around the undergraduate pre-health experience, the professional school application process, experiences in healthcare, medical residencies, and so much more!
